Project description:
Within METABOMS, the "Iuliu Hațieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy Cluj-Napoca, in partnership with Reykjavik University in Iceland and the National Alliance for Rare Diseases Romania, aim to develop the first laboratory dedicated to neonatal screening based on mass spectrometry from Romania.
Project activities:
- Acquisition of a state-of-the-art metabolic screening equipment within The Research Center for Advanced Medicine - MEDFUTURE, which contributes to the establishment of a functional analytical laboratory for newborn screening and to the reduction of health inequalities in the target group of the project.
- Establishment of a functional network at the Project promoter’s national level with public hospitals which include maternity and neonatology clinical departments for identification and inclusion of vulnerable individuals in the target group of the project.
- Organizing an information and awareness campaign that promotes social inclusion, combating poverty and any form of discrimination, with the priority of raising awareness of the importance of preventive health services for mothers and children.
- Newborn screening testing of vulnerable groups and integration of the results in the public health sector for further diagnosis and treatment.
- Professional training program in the field of newborn screening at Partner 1 for the technical staff of the Project promoter responsible of the analytical program, in order to improve the level of specialization.
