In the meeting of Friday, September 11, 2020, of the Senate of the "Iuliu Hațieganu" University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Cluj-Napoca it was decided that starting with October 5, 2020, due to the current epidemiological conditions, the teaching activities will take place in a hybrid system - online and in direct contact with the patient. Thus, the courses will be conducted exclusively online, and some of the practical activities will take place onsite.

Depending on the evolution of the number of cases and the epidemiological context, the situation will be re-evaluated periodically and the way of carrying out the teaching activities might change. The University management is ready to return quickly to the classical teaching system, if the epidemiological conditions improve, or to the online one exclusively, if the situation worsens. The scenarios can be adapted during the semester, if necessary, with the approval of the University Senate.

The way of organizing the teaching activity for the academic year 2020-2021 will be implemented by each faculty. All the details regarding the organization of the academic year will be available on the web pages of the faculties and will be communicated on the students' groups and on the InfoUtil application.

All these decisions apply both to the study programs in Romanian and to those in English and French.

The curricula and study formations remain those approved by the Senate. The preclinical courses and practical works will all take place online. The clinical internship activity will take place in a hybrid system and will be uniformly distributed throughout the academic year. Students will participate in clinical internships in appropriate hospital equipment, clearly defined circuits will be established, epidemiological measures will be observed and a code of conduct will be set up.

•    At the Faculty of Medicine, for the 1st and 2nd year of the Medicine study program, the courses and practical works will be held online.
•    For the 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th year, the teaching activity will be carried out in a hybrid, modular system. The clinical internships in the specialized disciplines with an important number of hours in the curricula will take place partially at the patient's bedside, respecting the distance conditions, in order to assimilate the practical skills required for the medical profession.
•    For the study programs of 180 and 240 ECTS, in the preclinical disciplines (1st year), the courses and practical works will take place online, and in the specialized disciplines, the practical internships will be carried out in a hybrid and modular system.
•    At the Faculty of Dental Medicine, preclinical teaching activities will take place online. The practical works will take place in a hybrid system, combining online activities with onsite practical activities carried out in a modular system. The groups of students will participate in the practical activities by rotation: 1-2-3 weeks onsite, the rest of the weeks online.
•    At the Faculty of Pharmacy, the teaching activity will take place exclusively online.

For students who, for health or personal reasons, cannot participate in onsite activities (especially international students who have travel restrictions), teaching activities will take place only online, with the recuperation of practical activity modules during the second semester or the summer practice, according to a methodology that will be communicated to them later. They will have to announce the management of the faculties on the fact that they want to participate in the teaching activities in this manner, until October 1st.

The events of the last months have tested our ability to adapt and reinvent. We had to take complicated decisions, which almost completely changed the paradigm of medical education and we can proudly say that we have organized ourselves in an exemplary manner, both in the continuation and completion of the academic year 2019-2020, and in holding exam sessions, admission and license exams.

The beginning of the 2020-2021 academic year brings new challenges, which we’ll overpass together, assuming our mission and responsibility to continue ensuring academic performance and maintain health and safety standards for the entire community: students, teachers, administrative staff and last but not least, patients.
